Amreli (Gujarat):

Congress leader Paresh Dhanani, who has won the Patidar-dominated Amreli assembly seat thrice, was trailing by a margin of 5,600 votes to the BJP candidate in the counting of votes on Thursday. On the other hand, in Waghodia assembly constituency, BJP rebel and independent candidate Dharmendra Singh Vaghela is ahead of party’s candidate Ashwin Patel.

According to Election Commission data, BJP district president Kaushik Vekaria has secured 13,322 votes till the fourth round of counting, while Dhanani has got 7,638 votes so far. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Ravi Dhanani has got 6,000 votes. All the three main candidates in Amreli come from the Patidar community. This seat has always had ups and downs for the BJP and the Congress. Congress candidate Satyajit Singh Gaikwad is at the third position after seven rounds of counting in Waghodia seat. The interesting thing is that MLA Madhu Srivastava, who is representing the area in the assembly for the sixth time, has reached the fourth position. In the last election, he defeated Dharmendra Singh Vaghela as a BJP candidate by a margin of 10,000 votes.
